Each model illustrates the strategic value and business benefits of moving from the “baseline” optimization stage where the IT infrastructure is generally considered a “cost center” to a “dynamic” infrastructure where the business value of the IT infrastructure is clearly understood and perceived as a factor enabling business development and a strategic business asset. Using these models, we can assess the current state of the infrastructure, establish a technological vision for the future, and build a clear roadmap to that vision.

The vision of infrastructure optimization (IO) is to help clients realize the value of their investment in IT infrastructure, making it a strategic resource that enables higher efficiency in their organizations. Business, organization and infrastructure that is adapted to people’s needs adapt to the industry environment. They have the ability to bring new products and services to market in a timely and cost-effective manner, connecting people, information and business processes to increase market responsiveness and eliminate inefficiencies. The IO model is a continuum of four levels or phases with ever higher technological maturity: Basic, Standardized, Rationalized and Dynamic.

 

Basic

A typical business in the baseline has manual processes, minimal central control, and limited or unforced IT policies.

Standardized

A company in the standardized phase can be characterized as having a managed infrastructure that implements operational controls through standards, policies, servers and resources.

Rationalized

Rationalized infrastructure typically includes proactive processes, sourcing, and policies that have matured and started to play a big role in supporting and expanding the business. Most importantly, the costs associated with managing desktops and servers are the lowest.

Dynamic

Customers with dynamic infrastructure are fully aware of the strategic value their infrastructure provides, helping them run their businesses efficiently and stay ahead of the competition. The processes are fully automated, often built into the technology itself, allowing IT to be adjusted and managed according to business needs.
